The catch system includes a catch (22) fitted to the boot lid (14), to engage a fixed catch on the vehicle. The fixed catch (52) has an indexing bolt (57) which can be moved to pull the boot lid down onto the seals (15). The bolt is coupled to a motor (51) by a flexible drive (71). The boot lid is pressed down to contact the catch and bolt and the servo drive pulls the lid down tight onto the seals, with a mechanical catch to hold the fitting. The boot catch is released by a control (89) on the boot lid. Failure of the servo motor enables the catch to be operated manually. The motor drive operates for a set time only, sufficient to pull the lid down. ADVANTAGE - Quiet operation of boot lid, failsafe locking if servo fails.
