The guide consists of a base (13) fixed to the wall (18) of the access shaft (2) with two guide rails (19,20) in which the ladder rails (7,8) slide. The guide rails have lock bolts (32) for locking the ladder in a higher position. These work with closure flaps (33) connected to the rails of the movable ladder. The guide rails (19,20) have a C-shaped cross-section, one wing being firmly connected to the visible surface of the base (13). The guide rails have inner surfaces working with the outer surfaces (27) of the ladder, whereby any lateral displacement of the ladder is prevented. USE/ADVANTAGE - Increases safety in usage of an extendable ladder providing access to a technical room or to an excavation.
