A device for removing ions from the vacuum chamber of an electron accelerator ring has an ion induction electrode in the deflection region of the gun along the inside of a peripheral inner wall an ion removal electrode at the beginning and end of the deflection region. There is a power source to apply a h.v. both to the induction and the two removal electrodes. The induction electrode is made from wire in the form of a grid. Some of the wire sections have an insulated cover used to fasten the grid to the chamber wall and to provide insulation between the two. ADVANTAGE - Removes the ions effectively without impairing electron beam.
