The cleaning system has a fresh air supply unit formed by a short circuit pipe (8). One end of the pipe is connected to the air inlet pipe (2) and the other end with the exhaust pipe (5) of the engine. The latter connection is made at a place upstream of the catalytic converter (6). The heater (11) is fitted in the short circuit pipe (8). A control unit (12A) is provided for controlling the heater dependent on at least either the operating condition of the engine or the ambient conditions. The fresh air system also includes an air filter (3) at the air inlet, an air fan (7A) supplying air across the pipe (8) and a non-return valve (9) located between the heater and the catalytic converter (6). ADVANTAGE - Gives improved and increased cleaning efficiency of exhaust gases.
