The baseplate (22) has an open area running along the top end of the wiper blades (24,26) and opening forwards in the work direction of the wiper (10). A curved guide section (22c) is located with its axial direction running parallel to the upper end of the wiper blades and its inner circumferential wall curved backwards in the work direction. The fluid wiped up by the blades moves from the lower end to the upper end and then into the guide section. Each guide section has a recessed strip extending along the inner circumferential wall and inclined relative to the surface being cleaned so that one end of the strip points outwards at the bottom of the baseplate while the other end points towards the middle at the top of the plate.
