PURPOSE:To produce desired mechanical parts by joining which withstands a high service temp. by using an intermediate material consisting of an austenitic stainless steel, etc., in joining a Ti-Al alloy and a steel for structural purposes and subjecting the intermediate material and the steel for structural purposes to friction welding. CONSTITUTION:A wheel 1B consisting of the Ti-Al alloy member contg. an intermediate compd. Ti Al as its essential constituting phase, the intermediate material 2A consisting of a ring of the austenitic stainless steel, heat resisting steel or Ni or Co base, and a shaft material 3 consisting of the steel for structural purposes are all joined by friction welding. The intermediate material 2B is subjected to internal chill at the time of casting the well 1B made of the Ti-Al alloy. This intermediate material 2B and the stem of the shaft material 3 are joined by friction welding. The high joint strength is obtd. in this way. This method is applicable to the production of mechanical parts, such as turbine plates and engine valves or wheels of turbo chargers.
