The invention relates to a novel method for measuring the water permeability of porous media not saturated with water, in the transient regime, and an implementation device. The method is based on the combined use of the so-called osmotic method of monitoring the suction of the unsaturated porous media using semipermeable membranes and a solution of large molecules which cannot pass through the said membrane, and the so-called Gardner type method of measuring permeability, developed on apparatuses for suction measurement by air overpressure. The device for implementing the method consists of a buffer solution container (10), connected to a closed circuit (12) which incorporates the system (1) for suction of the sample in question (2) and in which the solution is circulated slowly by a pump (15). The monitoring over time of the water exchanges following a suction increment obtained by changing the concentration of the solution allows determination of the permeability according to the Gardner method.
