The field of the invention is that of the technical monitoring of sports people. More precisely, the invention relates to the recording of phases of play, during a match or when training, so as to allow analysis thereof. Thus, the invention relates to a device for recording phases of sports play consisting of successive actions taken on a playing area, comprising a tactile keypad (11) representing the said playing area (12), furnished with keys (15, 16A, 16B) defining playing actions, at least some of the said keys (15, 16A, 16B) being situated in the regions of the said playing area where these playing actions are liable to occur, so as to allow the recording of the coded representation of a phase of play by pressing the key or the sequence of keys corresponding to the actions characteristic of the said phase of play, in the region(s) of the said playing area where each of the said actions has occurred. The essential characteristic of the invention is therefore to relate the position of the keys of the keypad to particular geographical locations of a playing area, and especially a sport's ground.
