With the component (7, 18) of the nuclear reactor arranged underwater, a thrust is exerted on a projecting end (22a) of the elongate element (22) in the axial direction of the duct (21) and a vibration is transmitted to the elongate element (22) via its projecting end (22a) and tension is simultaneously exerted in the axial direction on an extension of the element (22) of elongate shape, opposite the projecting end (22a) and located outside the duct (21). The extraction aid device includes a carriage (61), a thrust and vibration assembly (64) and guide columns (71) as well as a jack (80) for displacing the thrust and vibration assembly (64) in the vertical direction. The method and the device according to the invention may, in particular, be used for extracting a thermocouple engaged in a measurement duct of the upper internals of a pressurised water nuclear reactor.
