The charge coupled detector array comprises at least two series of electrodes applied to one layer of an insulating surface carried by a semiconductor substrate. On the other surface of the substrate, which receives the incident radiation for detection, there is further series of electrodes treated with a passivating material to form a heterojunction in order to modify the range of wavelengths to which particular regions respond. The surface of the insulating layer is crenellated to provide different surface levels, with the passivating material being applied in specific locations w.r.t. the position of the crenellations. ADVANTAGE - Target tracking detector can respond to wide range of IR radiation.
