The controller (1) monitors charging via the battery socket (2) into which the charger is plugged (4). During normal service, (discharging), this plus is replaced by another (3) through which the controller can disable or disconnect the battery load if conditions require it. The controller includes battery voltage and current monitors, an analogue-digital converter, microprocessor, memory and display for setting-up. It interrupts charging when the programmed battery conditions have been attained, and discharging, via the trip connection(3), if the current rises above, or the voltage falls below, the preset limits. The ampere-hour depletion during discharging is stored in memory for reference in subsequent recharging. ADVANTAGE - Imposes appropriate charge and discharge regimes, optimising performance.
