APPARATUS FOR AND METHOD OF POWERLINE SURVEYING,DESIGNING AND MAINTENANCE

Apparatus for powerline surveying comprises means for measuring points off the powerline in addition to points strictly along the route of the line, and means for preparing two and three dimensional representations of the line and the land surrounding it. The apparatus includes one or more of the following means for the two and three dimensional survey of overhead powerlines; means for transfer of chainage, offset and datum, (i.e. height) measurement to an off-line station via a change point and a sighting to a known point; means to establish the position of an inaccessible point by remote location; means to monitor towers with interactive checking against design information; means to reset the offset of on-line observing stations back to zero and reset the horizontal circle orientation through sighting the powerline; means to reset the offset of points on-line to zero if they are within a certain specified distance of the line; and means to log land usage and topographical features.
