The present invention relates to an instrument for observing the brilliance of jewels, especially of diamonds, and a method of photographing them with this instrument. The instrument of this invention is composed of a lower tubular portion comprising a non-transparent material and an upper tubular portion comprising a semi-transparent material, and a magnifying observation lens can be furnished on the upper end part of said upper tubular portion in accordance with using purposes of the instrument.
