PURPOSE:To obtain the title composite material suitable for the joining of dissimilar materials by adding specific amounts of powder of cordierite, beta-spodumene or aluminum titanate to the metallic powder of 'Invar(R)' or 'kovar(R)'. CONSTITUTION:To the metallic powder having the compsn. of 'Invar(R)' or 'Kovar(R)', 0.1 to 70vol.% low expansion oxide powder constituted of one or more kinds among cordierite, beta-spodumene and aluminum titanate is added to obtain a low thermal expansion and heat-resistant composite material. Materials having different thermal expansion coefficient are joined by regulating the composite material having the above compsn. as a joining material, so that a laminated joining composite material having relaxed thermal stress and reliability can be formed. At this time, in the case of a laminated joining composite material formed by laminating plural materials, each thermal expansion coefficient of the above materials shall be different as well as they are preferably laminated in such a manner that the coefficient is gradually made higher or lower in the laminating direction.
