PURPOSE:To hold the continuity of time code output data satisfactory before and after errors occur and to enhance the reliability of data by outputting interpolating data on the basis of time code data read out properly before errors occur. CONSTITUTION:If data reading errors occur in a time code reading circuit 2 at the time of tape traveling in normal and reverse directions, they are outputted as time code data from output data from a time code interpolating circuit 10 through an output terminal 6. The interpolating circuit 10 outputs time code interpolation data on the basis of the time code data read out properly before errors occur and frame number data (tape count data) in accordance with quantity of tape traveling. As a result the continuity of time code data from the output terminal 6 can be held. Thus editing accuracy can be enhanced and editing errors can be reduced.
