PURPOSE: To lessen the amount of production of waste and also to enable reduction of the amount of consumption of a neutralizer by a method wherein concentrated liquid waste remaining in an evaporator after an operation of evaporation is separated into a nitric acid and sodium hydroxide by ion exchange equipment. ;CONSTITUTION: Low-level radioactive liquid waste is sent into a storage tank 1 through a pipeline 2, while sodium hydroxide being a neutralizer is supplied thereto through a pipeline 3, and the liquid waste is subjected to pH regulation. The liquid waste after the pH regulation is subjected to evaporating treatment in an evaporator 5. A condensed liquid thereof is subjected to pH regulation in a storage tank 6, sent to an oil removing device 7 and a storage tank 8 and released into the sea after inspection. Meanwhile, a concentrated residue in the evaporator 5 is subjected to concentration regulation in a storage tank 9 and then sent to an ion exchange tower 11. A part of a radioactive nuclide is adsorbed by an inorganic ion exchanger in the exchange tower 11, while Na ions are adsorbed by a cation exchanger and a nitric acis solution is discharged from the bottom and stored in a storage tank 12. The adsorbed Na ions are eluted once a day by an eluent sent from a pipeline 13 and are stored as a sodium hydroxide solution in a storage tank 14 and reused as the neutralizer through the pipeline 3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
