PURPOSE:To generate large operating force per unit weight and to obtain stable and excellent controllability by adjusting the exciting current of an electromagnet on the basis of the deviation of an operating member between a target and an actual position and controlling the operating member to the target position. CONSTITUTION:When a command for movement to the target position is supplied to the operating member 1, an electronic controller 5 sends a voltage command CS to a driving source 7, whose power is transmitted to magnetic plates 2a and 2b through a synchronizing device 8, so that the magnetic plates 2a and 2b move linearly in synchronism. The member 1 also moves in response. Then, the quantity of displacement of this member 1 is detected by a position detector 3 and read in the controller 5. The controller 5 obtains the deviation of the member 1 between the target position and actual position and outputs voltage commands CA and CB to current controllers 6a and 6b on the basis of the deviation. The controllers 6a and 6b adjust exciting currents of electromagnets 1a and 1b on the basis of those commands to control the member 1 to the target position.
