PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron core, a method for manufacturing a wound iron core, a method for manufacturing a product iron core, and a method for manufacturing an electromagnetic steel sheet for an iron core, which can easily reduce iron loss. SOLUTION: A plurality of steel plate pieces 14i (i = 1, 2, ... M) are laminated on a wound iron core. A plurality of grooves 16i are formed on the surface of each steel plate piece 14i. When the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the groove 16i per unit length along the direction of the magnetic path of the steel sheet piece 14i to the plate thickness cross-sectional area is taken as the groove cross-sectional area ratio, the steel sheet pieces 14i to 14M are formed from the inner circumference to the outer circumference. The depth, width, and pitch of the grooves 16i formed in the steel plate piece 14i are adjusted so that the groove cross-section ratio becomes smaller continuously or stepwise toward.
