PURPOSE: To provide a method for modeling a three-dimensional object by which the internal area of a model is identified while facilitating handling and display for planning the procedure of surgical operation. ;CONSTITUTION: A span processor 32 receives volumetric data from an image generator 10 and stores these data in a span memory 30 as a condensed display list, the span processor 32 transforms that display list into display list composed of points and normal vectors, and a model clipping circuit 70 decides any point to be displayed corresponding to a desired model cutting plane. According to a desired direction, a rotation circuit 130 transforms the points and normal display list and according to the direction of normal vectors, the normal vectors are transformed to levels with shading. Then, a screen clipping circuit 150 transforms the points in the transformed display list to desired screen view areas, any boxel suitable for display is decided by a depth buffer 180, comparator circuit 202 and AND circuit 220 and the AND circuit 220 updates the depth buffer 180 and an image memory buffer 190.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
