PURPOSE:To detect the existence of three dimensional target and to make it possible to function within a suitable offset altitude (distance) by detecting an effective range altitude and the existence of three dimensional target, which can be obtained by detecting magnitude and change of beat wave generated when electric wave reflected from the ground or target and transmission wave overlap each other. CONSTITUTION:Detector 6 is provided with oscillator 19, circulator 21 which through pulse modulator 20 modulates pulse of high frequency electric power generated by the oscillator 19 and transmit its signal to flat plate antenna 2, mixer 22 to which a reflected wave caught by the flat plate antenna 2 is inputted through the circulator 21, and detecting device 23 which detects beat wave outputted from the mixer 22. As transmission pulse is modulated to get longer by stages, overlap of the transmission wave and its reflected wave starts from long pulse side and moves to short one gradually, and produces beat wave. In this instance, if the point of time when the longest pulses overlap is set at pulse width corresponding to an effective range altitude (distance), the said altitude (distance) can be detected. When a target generates beat wave having difference of altitude, it is an irregular one, and by detecting this, a target having an altitude can be detected.
