PURPOSE: To prevent effectively tissue of cornea from breaking and burning caused by photochemical reaction by bringing a cooling body provided with a Peltier element into contact with the cornea of an eyeball and performing an operation while the cornea is cooled. ;CONSTITUTION: A hollow cooling body 1 provided with a Peltier element 7 is constituted by fixing the Peltier element 7 on the upper part of the hollow cooling body 1 with a thick side face and fixing a heat sink 8 connected with a cooling medium flow-in pipe and a cooling medium flow-out pipe 5 on the upper part thereof. In addition, the bottom face 3 of the cooling body 1 has a curved face the crossection of which coincides with the curvature of the cornea 2 of the eyeball. The cooling body 1 is mounted movably up and down on a supporting column by means of a movable bar fixed on its side face and the bottom face 3 is brought into contact with the cornea 2 of the eyeball to surround the part to be operated. It is necessary to keep the temp. of cooling of the cornea 2 of the eyeball by the cooled hollow cooling body 1 at 30-40°C. In the operation of the cornea 2 of the eyeball, a part with abnormal refraction of the cornea 2 of the eyeball is irradiated with a laser ray from an excimer laser to cut off the cornea 2 of the eyeball with abnormal refraction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
