NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is OH and R2 is H or R1 is H and R2 is OH). USE:A flavor and taste improving agent for tobacco capable of imparting sense worthy of tobacco to cut tobacco, pipe tobacco, regenerated tobacco and leaf tobacco for product tobacco by addition in an amount on the order of ppm, suppressing irritation and improving the taste as well as quality of the product tobacco with excellent persistency. PREPARATION:Lasiodiplodia theobromae (IFO 6469) is cultivated in a culture medium containing a well-known compound expressed by formula II in an amount of 0.1-0.3g based on 1l culture fluid to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
