PURPOSE: To provide a field withstand voltage test method and its device for gas-insulated switchgears capable of applying enough test voltage to an extended part in a state of operating an existing part, and capable of performing a field withstand voltage test effectively and safely. ;CONSTITUTION: In a state of operating an existing part 9 having a potential transformer 7, a field withstand voltage test of an extended part 10 or part to be inspected is performed by the use of a test transformer 11. The frequency and phase of commercial frequency operating voltage of the existing part 9 is detected by the potential transformer 7. The frequency and phase of withstand voltage test voltage of the test transformer 11 are matched with those of the commercial frequency operating voltage of the existing part 9. Concretely, a frequency converter is provided in the test transformer 11, and the frequency converter is controlled by a controlling means using the output of the potential transformer 7.
