PURPOSE: To mass proliferate Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Hara by culturing a root of the Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Hara in a liquid culture medium containing a suppressor for production of phenolic substances and an adsorbent for the phenolic substances without containing a hormone, readily inducing the root into an adventitious bud and growing the adventitious bud. ;CONSTITUTION: A root having 1cm length is collected from sterile Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Hara and subjected to the shaking culture in a liquid culture medium containing a suppressor for production of phenolic substances (e.g. polyvinylpyrrolidone) and/or an adsorbent for the phenolic substances (e.g. active carbon) without containing a hormone and the obtained cultured root is further cultured in a solid culture medium containing cytokinins and auxins to induce an adventitious bud from the root of the Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Hara. The resultant induced adventitious bud is then rooted to regenerate a plant body. Thereby, the Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Hara is mass proliferated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
