PURPOSE: To improve ductility and shape retention by adding water and a small quantity of sucrose or high molecular polyhydric alcohol to clay of raw materials for pottery and kneading the mixture. ;CONSTITUTION: As the clay of raw materials for pottery, that conventionally used for the production of pottery is used. Sucrose and high molecular polyhydric alcohol are dilluted to obtain 20-40% water solutions, which are mixed at ratios of 1:1 to 7:3. It is proper that the mixed solution is added to the clay to which water has been added at a rate of about 1-2wt.%. As the sucrose and high molecular polyhydric alcohol, powder products of those on the market are used as they are, but because of variations in compound components of the product from company to company, it is necessary that the quantity is somewhat adjusted according to the product used. To improve preservable property, a water holding agent may be added by about 0.1-0.5% of the total weight of a body and only any one of the sucrose and the high molecular polyhydric alcohol may be added to bring good results.
