PURPOSE:To facilitate the power control of a superconducting magnet energy storage system which receives and supplies a power from and to an AC power supply without mutual interference between an active power and a reactive power. CONSTITUTION:An energy storage system is such that a power is supplied to a superconducting magnet 32 by a power converter 31 from an AC power supply 1 through an inductance 2. The energy storage system has a power detector 4, a power controller 5 which outputs a power command signal in accordance with a power signal and a power reference signal, a current detector 9 which detects the effective value of an AC current outputted from the power converter, a compensation signal operating means 10 for the compensation of a reactive component created by the inductance, an extracting means which extracts the compensation signal from the power command signal and a control factor signal generator which outputs a control factor signal with which the apparent component of a power outputted from the power converter by the input from the extracting means is controlled. Further, a control signal operating means 7 which operates a firing angle signal with which a phase difference between the voltage of the AC power supply and a current outputted from the power converter is controlled and a phase control means 8 to which the control factor signal and the firing angle signal are supplied and which controls the phase of the power converter are provided.
