PURPOSE:To provide the subject new peptide useful as a biochemical reagent for studying neurotransmission system because of giving such physiological activity as to modify the intense contraction of the anteroattrahens of Soletelina diphos due to electric stimulation, also serving as a clue for studying medicines and pesticides. CONSTITUTION:The objective peptide of the formula (p-Glu is pyroglutamic acid residue), which can be obtained from the ganglion of Helix pomatia by a process where the neuromuscle of Helix pomatia is homogenized in acetone followed by centrifugalization, and the resulting supernatant is adsorbed to a C18 cartridge; the adsorbed fraction is eluted with 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid/ methanol followed by purification using e.g. reversed-phase chromatography or ion exchange chromatography. Or, this peptide can also be obtained using a peptide synthesizer.
