METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING COLORED FOREIGN MATTER IN RAW COTTON

PURPOSE: To enhance reliability and stability in the detection of colored foreign matter using simple means. ;CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for detecting colored foreign matter comprises a RGB camera 3 installed at the raw cotton supply position of an opening machine 2 for scratching an unopened straw bag type raw cotton 1 to produce a mass, and a control section 4 connected with the RGB camera 3 and delivering a control signal to the opening machine 2 depending on the output from the RGB camera 3. Prior to opening operation, the RGB camera 3 picks up the image on the surface of the raw cotton 1 and the control section 4 determines the chromaticity and lightness distribution of the raw cotton 1 and a colored foreign matter 5 adhered to the surface thereof based on the image data thus picked up. The colored foreign matter 5 is decided by comparing the chromaticity and lightness between the raw cotton 1 and the colored foreign matter 5 and then a control signal for removing the foreign matter is delivered from the control section to the opening machine 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
