PURPOSE: To improve the reproduction of the tone and the color of a printed image and a slide image which are photomechanically processed on a color negative film, scanned by a photo CD negative scanner and transferred film, scanned by a photo CD negative scanner and transferred to a photo CD disk. CONSTITUTION: As for this method; the color negative (or slide) is formed by using a normal scanner proofreading target, a print adjusted from the negative is formed, and the print (or slide) is photomechanically processed on a secondary color negative film 30C again, then normal scanner proofreading is performed by using the 2nd 'cascaded' film. In such a proofreading step (in the case of proofreading the 'normal' film exposed from an original picture), not only the 2nd color negative film is compensated but also the characteristic of 'print- through' (or slide) of the 1st negative film is compensated. Therefore, a result very approximately to data attained in the case the original picture is photomechanically processed on the color negative film and directly scanned is obtained.
