PURPOSE: To obtain output light of an excellent wave front characteristic by easily matching phases within the optical waveguide in the optical waveguide conversion element having the waveguide formed of a nonlinear optical crystal as a substrate. ;CONSTITUTION: The nonlinear waveguide 2 is formed as the first waveguide and the second waveguide 4 having an equal propagation constant is formed via a clad layer 3 thereon. A directional coupler is constituted of the first and second waveguides 2, 3, by which an incident laser beam 5 is propagated like an optical path 6. A second harmonic wave output beam 7 is generated and is emitted together with the incident laser beam as an output laser beam 8 in the direction perpendicular to the end face from the nonlinear waveguide and, therefore, the wavelength conversion element having the excellent wave front characteristic is obtd.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
