PURPOSE: To obtain a new perfluorocarboxylic acid trianhydride having low birefringence, excellent in light transmitting property in near-infrared region and useful as a synthetic raw material for polyimide and its new intermediate. ;CONSTITUTION: A perfluorocarboxylic acid trianhydride of formula I. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting tetrafluorophthalonitrile with tetrafluorohydroquinone in the presence of a base to afford a new perfluorotriphthalonitrile of formula II, further hydrolyzing this perfluorotriphthalonitrile to give a new perfluorohexacarboxylic acid of formula III, and finally dehydrating this perfluorohexacarboxylic acid.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
