PURPOSE:To correctly analyze the oxide group existing substance in each form by quantitatively analyzing FeO, Cr2O3, MnO, SiO2, Al2O3, MgO and CaO from the extraction residue extracted by a halogen-alcohol solution. CONSTITUTION:In order to carry out quantitative analysis by taking out FeO, Cr2O3, MnO, SiO2, Al2O3, MgO and CaO as extraction residue from the iron matrix of the iron and steel powder and its press compaction member, the halogen-alcohol solution which is formed by dissolving bromine or iodine into alcohol is used. The value (a value) of the total O quantity which is obtained through the calculation from these analytical values is in the equal or proportional relation to the total O analytical value (b value) obtained from other methods. In each case when iron and steel powder is dissolved by the bromine- methanol solution or by the iodine-methanol solution, the ratio between the total O quantity calculated from the quantitative analytical value and the total O quantity analytical value obtained through other method is stable in a prescribed range, and the quantity of the oxide group existing substance in each form can be analyzed with high precision.
