PURPOSE: To prevent the blockage of a pipeline and occurrence of composition changes in water to be inspected and a biochemical oxygen demand(BODs) calibrating liquid so as to improve the measurement reliability of the title instrument by ozonizing washing water by using an ozone gas generated from an ozone generator. ;CONSTITUTION: After starting the supply of water to be inspected 6 to a microorganism electrode 1 by switching a liquid pump 3 to the water 6, an electromagnetic valve 11 is opened and part of the air from an air pump 2 is branched to an ozone generator 10. Then the generator 10 is actuated and an ozone gas is generated. By supplying the ozone gas to an air diffusing tube 12 laid on the bottom of a washing bottle 14 and dissolving the ozone in washing water in the bottle 14, ozone washing water 13 is prepared. After supplying the water 6 to the electrode 1 and calculating the BODs value of the water 6, the pump 3 is switched to the water 13 and bacilli adhering to the internal surfaces of pipelines 16 after the water 6 flows through the pipelines 16 are disinfected. After cleaning the pipeline 16 with the water 13, the generator 10 is stopped and the valve 11 is closed. Since it is not required to block the pipeline 16 for disinfecting the bacilli and the compositions of the water 6 and a BODs calibrating liquid 7 are not changed, highly reliable BODs measurement can be performed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
