TAIL SEAL REPLACEMENT METHOD FOR SHIELD MACHINE

PURPOSE: To exchange a tail seal without halting the operation of a shield machine. ;CONSTITUTION: An inner ring 3 provided with a tail seal 2 is fixed with an inner peripheral surface of a skin plate 1 for a shield machine. A replacement inner ring 6 is installed to an inner peripheral surface of the tail skin plate 1 at a portion in front of the inner ring 3 and segments 5 are assembled on the inner peripheral surface of the replacement inner ring 3. The inner ring 3 in service and the replacement inner ring 6 are fixed with a check bolt 8 while the shield machine is adapted to advance by a portion of one ring. A new replacement inner ring 6 is fixed with the tail skin plate 1 while accompanied by the advancement of the shield machine, a used old inner ring 3 is left over backward as it is. It is, therefore, possible to exchange new and old tail seals 7 and 2 under the continuous drilling operation of the shield machine and reduce both construction period and cost in the execution of excavation work based on a shield method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
