PURPOSE: To replace tail seals safely by advancing an inspection segment, a sealed segment, and a working segment in that order, then injecting a water stop material, then separating a tail seal, then advancing an excavator using a temporary propelling segment, then dismantling the temporary propelling segment, and attaching a new tail seal. CONSTITUTION: An inspection segment 9 is provided behind an existing segment 3 and an excavator 1 is advanced. Then a sealed segment 10 provided with a movable seal member 12 is provided and advanced. Then a working segment 14 for separating a tail seal 5 is provided and advanced. A water stop material 17 is injected from the nozzle of the sealed segment 10. Then the tail seal 5 is separated, and a temporary segment 19 is attached to the working segment 14 via a pushing plate 18 and advanced. Thereafter, the temporary propelling segment 19 is dismantled and the tail seal 5 is removed. A tail seal 20 is then mounted on the inner surface of a plate 2. Therefore, the damage to the tail seal left behind can be checked and the tail seal replaced.
