PURPOSE: To reduce the burden of a host computer and to easily change, add and delete a printer on a network by deciding a corresponding physical printer based on a printer control table. ;CONSTITUTION: The printer control table is prepared for a gateway device 2. Then, when specifying Face, Body, Summary, etc., of print on the host computer side and transmitting them with printing data to the gateway device 2, the gateway device 2 decides a paper size in accordance with a logical printer name table 14 and a unique printer name table, furthermore, specifies a printer meeting the condition of the paper size in accordance with the unique printer name table 15 and the physical printer 16 and sends printing data to the specified printer for printing.
