PURPOSE: To obtain an electrochemically active quaternized poly(quinolinediyl) or poly (isoquinolinediyl) polymer by reacting poly (quinolinediyl) or poly(isoquinolinediyl) polymer derived from quinoline or isoquinoline with an alkyl halide to quaternize the ring nitrogen atoms. ;CONSTITUTION: This polymer is obtained by reacting a poly(quinolinediyl) or poly(isoquinolinediyl) polymer comprising repeating units of a bivalent group derived by removing two arbitrary hydrogen atoms from quinoline being a condensed heterocyclic compound, and represented by formula l or II with an alkyl halide to quaternize the ring nitrogen atoms. In the formulas, x≥5; y≥5; R is an alkyl; X is a halogen; and n≥5.
