PURPOSE: To accelerate a signal processing and to reduce manufacturing cost by dividing a waiting area into plural meshes, detecting infrared ray radiant quantities generated by waiting people in the respective meshes and displaying corresponding number of waiting people integrated numbers. ;CONSTITUTION: An elevator waiting area 1 is divided into plural rectangular meshes 2-5 and infrared ray detectors 6-9 are hung on the lower ceiling surface of a waiting area center part so as to face each other with representative points P1-P4 capable of surely detecting the total quantity of the infrared radiant quantities emitted by the respective waiting people in the respective meshes 2-5. Then, the detected values of the infrared ray detectors 6-9 are subjected to sampling-and-holding at every prescribed time by interfaces 10-13, converted to digital quantity and inputted to a CPU 14. Then, the respective infrared ray radiant quantities are collated with the waiting people integrated numbers by using the discrimination condition table of a RAM 15 and when coincidence is detected, code data for indicating the number of integration are inputted to a display device 17 and the number of waiting people integrated number is displayed.
