PURPOSE: To stabilize a reactive negative electrode by blending a negative electrode with a stabilizer containing a small amount of one kind of alkylpolyethoxylalcohol sulfide satisfying a predetermined formula. CONSTITUTION: A stabilized reactive negative electrode used for an electrochemical primary battery and made from a metal selected from a group comprising zinc, aluminum, and magnesium contains a stabilizer in a concentration ranging from 0.001 to 1wt.% of the electrode metal, the stabilizer containing at least one kind of alkylpolyethokylalchol sulfide satisfying formula I. In formula I, R is an alkyl group, aryl group, or alkylaryl group, having a branched structure, and (n) is 2-100. R is an alkyl group having twelve carbon atoms.
