PURPOSE: To reduce decomposed matter difficult to treat or a harmful by- product difficult to collect and to prevent the generation of secondary environmental pollution by treating exhaust gas containing methyl bromide using a methyl bromide decomposing catalyst obtained by supporting copper bromide on acidic zeolite having a specific Si/Al mol ratio in a specific ratio. ;CONSTITUTION: A methyl bromide decomposing catalyst is constituted by supporting 0.1-30wt.% of copper bromide on acidic zeolite having an Si/Al mol ratio of 5 or more. Exhaust gas containing methyl bromide is brought into contact with the methyl bromide decomposing catalyst at 200°C or higher to decompose methyl bromide and CO generated at the time of decomposition is oxidized to CO2 by a CO oxidizing catalyst. This method is simple and operation is also simple and this catalyst can be adapted not only to a large-sized device for large amount treatment but also to a small-sized device for small amount treatment.
