In the process of regenerating used foundry sand in order to reuse it in place of new sand, the grains of sand are accelerated and braked repeatedly, they are abraded one on the other by stresses combined with shocks and shearing and, using a pneumatic dedusting device, they are thus released from the adherent envelopes of adducts and of binder adhering to the grains of sand. Before the regeneration treatment, the water content of the used sand is adjusted to a value of at most 1% by weight.
