Stirrer and method for stirring in a vessel and method of manufacturing marine food products

A stirrer has an elongated shaft with a transverse paddle and a drive element for moving the paddle in a repetitive, cyclical combined horizontal and up and down motion. The drive may comprise a first crank arm, for example, which is rotatably connected to the shaft, and a guide bush, in which the shaft is supported and longitudinally displaceable. The combined horizontal and vertical motion of the paddle produce such a gentle stirring of the liquid in the vessel that the food pieces deposited in the liquid are not damaged, whilst the stirring is sufficiently thorough to ensure a high and uniform quality of the prepared food pieces.
