Lifeline with locking device and recoil which is primarily intended for use in water sports and fishing. The reel harness system comprises a leaf spring-operated reel 5 to which a harness with snap hooks is fitted. The reel 5 mounted in the housing 1 is designed so that its run-out can be locked by a locking pawl 4 that is manually operated. The entire system is fixed to safety harnesses already known by means of the U-shackle 10. Lifelines using known systems give rise to problems, since their fixed length means that they are very inconvenient. Likewise in the event of persons falling overboard they could result in a considerable falling distance, this ultimately leading to great difficulty in getting back on board. With a reel lifeline with locking and recoil device the inconveniences are minimized, which means increased use and, in the event of persons falling overboard, it is considerably easier for them to haul themselves back on board.
