The invention relates to a silencer, especially for outlet air ducts in paper mills, the said silencer comprising a silencer housing 14, a damping material 13 located on the inside surface of the silencer housing 14 and a protective element 12 located on the inside surface of the damping material 13 for protecting the damping material 13 from mechanical wear. In the silencer 10 an outlet air flow P is arranged to run essentially in the direction of an axis of the silencer 10. The silencer 10 comprises an arrangement for producing a secondary air flow S2.
