Method of manufacturing latent heat storage cells, of rectangular plate shape with regard to the external form, from thin-walled sheet for a heat accumulator of an automotive vehicle. Each latent heat storage cell starts from a rectangular sheet-metal blank. By means of the anvil (2), constructed as a bending bar movable up and down, of an ultrasonic welding machine equipped with anvil (2) and sonotrode (3), the sheet-metal blank (1) is bent around its longitudinal centre to form a U-shaped pocket (4) which is open at the end faces and the walls of which project with marginal strips (5) at each side above the top side of the anvil (2) of the ultrasonic welding machine. By means of auxiliary tools (6) which are movable back and forth transversely to the up-and-down movement of the anvil, the marginal strips (5) are bent to form a lap seam (7) resting on the top side of the anvil. The lap seam (7) is welded to form a tight weld by means of the sonotrode (3) of the ultrasonic welding machine. The sonotrode (3) is lowered onto the anvil (2) with the lap seam in between. The latent heat storage cell (10) open at the end faces is removed from the anvil and then closed at the end faces. At the same time or afterwards, the latent heat storage cell (11) is filled with the latent heat storage medium. An apparatus for carrying out the method is also specified. IMAGE
