The object of the present invention consists in the development and use of a method for nuclear magnetic resonance tomography of nuclei with a low concentration and/or low abundance of isotopes and/or with a gyromagnetic ratio less than that of the protons and/or with a long spin-lattice relaxation time, based on double resonance techniques, in particular for biological and clinical investigations. Said method is based on the heteronuclear J coupling between the aforesaid rare and/or low-sensitivity nuclei and other nuclei of a more abundant and/or more sensitive kind, which is typically - but not necessarily - hydrogen. The position of the rare nuclei is visualized by an image of the abundant nuclei linked to the former by a J coupling. IMAGE
