A device for stopping in the loading and unloading position of a drum 1, especially of a linen washing machine of the high load type comprises in combination sensors 15 capable of detecting the presence of the usual opening 2 of the drum 1 corresponding to the usual bore 12 present in moving part 18 of the machine, a first commutator means 61 capable of interrupting supply to motor 5 of the machine and short-circuiting it, a second commutator means 62 capable of alternately connecting electrical power supply branches connected to motor 5, thus inverting it at the end of functioning of the linen washing machine and, when necessary, stopping it, the direction of a current I circulating in it being inverted in its direction of rotation, said second commutator means 62 successively intervening in the first commutator means 61, means of stopping 47 being advantageously provided that are capable of keeping drum 1 locked when opening 2 of the latter coincides with the bore 12 in the moving part.
