ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe invention provides a method of manufacturing acomposite material formed of a fibrous reinforcement and asilica based ceramic or vitro-ceramic matrix using a sol-gel process and hot compression. The method of theinvention is characterized in that prematurecrystallization of the matrix from the sol is delayed byaddition to the sol of a crystallization retarding agent.This method makes it possible to obtain well densifiedcomposite materials, having a residual porosity less than10% without adding nucleating agents.
