Abstract of the DisclosureA filler material, having a light weight, anincreased mechanical strength, and various excellentcharacteristics such as damping ability, as well as acomposite material and a structural material thereofare provided. The filler material comprises mats madeof alumina fibers, and layers of hollow silica-alumina-microspheres which are dispersed on and affixed to theassociated mat, with the mat and the layersalternately stacked with each other. The compositematerial comprises a matrix of aluminum in which theabove-mentioned filler material is filled. Thestructural material, which contains therein apredetermined amount of microspheres enough to providethe material with a desired vibration amplitude-frequency characteristic, is applied to a head arm forsupporting a magnetic head of a disk device, forinstance.
