A pipe joint is disclosed in which a pipe sectionhaving a bell end is joined to a pipe section having aspigot end and in which a split locking ring is provided forpreventing the sections from separating. The locking ringmay be expanded and contracted by means of a pair of lugsattached to the ends of the ring. A U-shaped nut ispositioned on one of the lugs and a threaded fastener passesthrough each of the lugs and the U-shaped nut for engaging athreaded aperture in the nu to draw the lugs together, andan additional threaded nut is positioned on the fastenerbetween the lugs for forcing the lugs apart.
